AUW Chronology of Development
October 2008
Prominent experts from around the world speak at the AUW international symposium on women's rights in Dhaka and Chittagong. AUW partners with Stanford University in California and Aalborg University in Denmark. Both institutions will contribute faculty for the University's first year.
September 2008
Michelle Zjhra joins AUW as the Dean of Natural Sciences.
August 2008
Hoon Eng Khoo is appointed the University's first Provost.
July 2008
AUW receives a second $1.4 million grant from the Goldman Sachs Foundation in support of the Access Academy. A Hong Kong philanthropist contributes $5 million toward campus construction.

AUWSF partners with BRAC to to ensure transparency and accountability in the development of the University.
Summer 2007
AUW confirms academic and administrative leadership appointments for the Access Academy.
February 2007
AUW partners with the Japan Foundation, allowing donors in Japan to receive tax deductions on their gifts to AUW.
January 2007
A two-day planning workshop on the Access Academy was held on January 27-28 at the AUWSF Chittagong Office. Participants in the meeting included Dr. Roop Rekha Verma of Lucknow University and Dr. Regina Papa of Alagappa University, who are both helping to develop the AUW Access Academy.
December 2006
Internationally renowned architect Moshe Safdie is commissioned to develop the Master Plan for the AUW campus.
October 2006
AUW receives a $1.4 million grant from the Goldman Sachs Foundation in support of the Access Academy.
AUWSF forms the Advisory Committee on Academic Planning, chaired by Henry Rosovsky, and the Advisory Committee on Campus Design & Facilities Planniong, chaired by Jeffrey Lehman. AUW announces a partnership with Aalborg University (AAU) in Denmark, which will advise on the establishment of a Graduate School of Information Technology.
September 2006
The AUW Charter is approved and ratified by the Bangladesh Government, in a bill passed by the Parliament on September 25, 2006.
May-October 2006
The perimeter of the University campus site in Chittagong is established, and initial assessments for utilities are other infrastructure needs are undertaken.
January 2006
Jack R. Meyer begins his term as chair of the AUW Support Foundation Board.
December 2005
The Friends of AUW Japan is formed at a kick-off reception held in Tokyo, Japan.
October 2005
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation awards AUW a $15 million challenge grant.
May 2005
The AUWSF Board of Directors publishes a plan of operations.
January 2004
The government of Bangladesh officially grants 100+ acres of land for the AUW campus in a groundbreaking ceremony.
October 2002
Public and private sector leaders from Asia, Europe, and North America gather at Wellesley College to help develop plans for AUW.
April 2002
The Asian University Support Foundation is classified as a public charity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
